Today was one of the toughest days all round. Today about four years ago is the day that Doctor Adamson passed away, Michael had never been the same since he lost one of his best friends and his mentor: one of the only people he trusted more than anything, the other being you.

You had known Robby since he started Medical School, you became the best of friends and inseparable. You even dated for a while but decided to mutually split to focus more on Med School, that spark still exists today. You knew him when he was happy.

You had just walked into the paediatrics room and on the floor you saw your best friend in absolute shambles. He was bawling his eyes out, he couldn’t stand anything anymore. He had finally crumbled: the pressures of the long horrible shift and the trauma of the anniversary of Adamson got the better of him, he was broken.

Seeing Robby so upset was one of the worst things you had ever laid your eyes on, the grief and pain is slowly being released through his waterfall of tears.

“Shh.. it’s okay.. i’m here robby..” you mutter: your eyes began to water as you sat on the floor beside him, resting your head on his shoulder as you used to back in medical school, just to show him you still cared about him more than anything.

“It was a child.. i couldn’t save her, all i can hear is her mother screaming from the hallway.. I can’t fucking stand it.” His voice cracking through the whole sentence, he would normally never admit he was having problems but he did now.

As you sit holding him close, you could only think of one thing, the thing that breaks you is the fact all you can see is your best friend from medical school, the sweet and innocent twenty four year old working with you on his ER rotation. you miss him.

You miss the boy that used to walk beside you with his hand on the small of your back, you miss the boy who cheered when he got told he got matched at the same hospital you did, the boy that would bring you food from the bakery every day, the boy who had the cutest smile on his face all the time no matter how shit the day went. where has he gone?
