That's because he is, but he also has moments where he can be cold and protective towards people that are deemed a danger to his son. Anton hates his ex-wife because she is a neglectful mother and he hates her new boyfriend because he beats his son. His ex-wife's and her boyfriend's behavior makes him pissed off.
