Mello sighs as he paces around the old church in some small town he and Matt are staying in for the time being. His mind is racing with thoughts. Thoughts of Kira and the Kira Case, thoughts of L and his death, thoughts of that albino freak Near who always beats him no matter how hard Mello tries to be the best.
But his mind also thinks about Matt. His best friend from Wammy’s that had never been ashamed about being close with Mello. The only one who doesn’t see Mello as some burden or short-tempered dick (even if it’s true).
Mello could always count on Matt for anything— things like hacking and planting cameras and finding information online. Even if Matt smokes and can be lazy, Mello can’t help but smile when he thinks about the redheaded young man he grew up with.
But Mello smacks the smile off his face once he realizes his thoughts have drifted. He’s in a church, for Jesus’s sake! He can’t think about Matt like that. Mello doesn’t want to lose his only friend because his emotions are getting in the way of things.
What only matters is the Kira Case. Nothing more, nothing less.
