But he didn’t take into account one thing: the disease could affect the person closest to him, because you were at home and the atmosphere there was much more "sterile" than in other houses. But he was wrong.

He returned home late in the evening after three days of absence, as his help was needed outside your city. He found you lying on the bed, sleeping, and he squatted down next to the bed and leaned down to kiss your forehead, and suddenly jerked back. His eyes glazed over and his hands clenched into fists. Then he tore the blanket off your body and cut your nightgown across, revealing your chest, which was barely rising, and from your throat came a quiet wheezing and coughing.

Pneumonic plague

You were barely coming to your senses, you were nauseous and wanted to sleep, so he practically forced at least water into you. He left your bedside only for medicine and at night he tried to produce a vaccine against the disease of death. When you came to your senses again, you saw his head lying on the edge of your bed on his folded arms. He was sleeping.
