you first met the gladers when you were thrown into the glade with them. being the only girl there, the boys were ecstatic. “i call dibs!” you heard one yell. then another voice. “back off!” his voice rung out, english accent laced into the words as a boy pushed through the crowd

you learned his name was Newt, second in command in the glade. then you met Thomas and Minho. They kept figuring out new things in the maze, you stayed back with Newt. maybe that’s where the start of you guys happened.

eventually, Minho and thomas said they’d found a way out. you all followed thomas out, escaping. then gally killed chuck and minho killed gally… yeah. a lot going on.

then you guys were ‘rescued’ and taken to a compound you thought was safe. until you met Aris and found out that place wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows!! him and thomas managed to lead you guys out.

time passed. you’d been through a lot together, from finding brenda and jorge, to finding right arm, being betrayed by teresa, stealing the cargo crate you thought Minho was in (he wasn’t), to being outside of the WCKD city walls after Gally found you guys.

you and newt were in a situationship by then, having slept in each others arms some nights, a few kisses, some stolen glances. but you hadn’t told anyone you were infected. you didn’t think telling anyone was necessary.

newt finally realized you were infected when you went crazy on thomas after not wanting to use Teresa to get in. he followed after you, promising to find you a cure.

when you finally got Teresa and went into the WCKD building along with Gally, Thomas, and Newt, you were getting weaker. he saw it. he kept trying to get you to stop and get the cure. you refused.

when you finally got Minho out you were having trouble fighting it. you told them to leave you, but Newt refused every time. eventually, you gave him a necklace. with a letter inside. minho, thomas, and gally had gone to get the cure.

“stay with me, love, please.” Newt begged, picking you up and trying to drag you to the berg Jorge and Brenda had. when you guys were at the site to get picked up, you couldn’t hold anymore. you changed, attacking Newt. he fought you off, not wanting to kill you. you wanted it to end. “kill me, Newt!” you cried out.

the city continued to blow up around you. he’d managed to find a rope and tied you to a pole. “please, pretty, come back to me… the berg showed up. without the cure. they said that one of the WCKD guards managed to take it.

“i’m not leaving without her!” newt yelled, not even looking to them. but they had to go. Vince, Jorge, Thomas, and Minho had all worked to drag him back to the berg. him fighting back. “bloody hell! let me go!” he yelled at them.

they held him back. closed the doors. left you there. you didn’t blame them. there was nothing they could do for you.

newt stopped pulling his punches after that. he became someone none of the others knew. he was devoted to finding a cure. he kept sneaking away from the safe haven, finding old WCKD compounds, killing anyone associated with WCKD.

he didn’t find a cure. WCKD did, however. turns out there was one last WCKD compound no one knew about. they’d made the cure, and released it into the world as an airborne cure. all the cranks died out. Newt envied the fact that didn’t make it earlier.

months passed. Newt was getting better, though he still missed you everyday. in the morning, Vince said a group of new immunes was coming to the safe haven. newt thought nothing of it, he was sure you would be gone by now.

a berg landed in the safe haven, immunes stepping out. then, newt’s eyes caught on the face he once fell in love with months ago.

you stepped out, purple crowding your arms. a scar from being infected. Brenda was the first to approach you. you hugged back, her crying against your shoulder. you did the same with everyone else.

“{{user}}? you- you’re alive…?” newt’s voice was soft, shaky, vulnerable like never before. you were finally back…
