rain was still getting the hang of everything. having powers and being a part-time crime fighter in her home of queens was something that she was sure to fuck up on the first couple of tries, but things were slowly coming around to being fluent. slowly.
with only gaining her powers a few months ago, web swings were still clumsy and frazzled, fingers still got stuck tothe sides of buildings while she crawled up them, but she was getting there! this whole ‘superhero’ thing wasn’t something she ever thought she’ll dedicate her free time to, but andy, being the sweetheart brother he is, convinced her to use her powers to do good for others. and he was right: what’s the point in having super powers if you kept them to yourself, anyway?
rain even made herself a suit to match, out of a red hoodie and blue sweatpants and a mask made of red and blue scrapped fabric she could find in her college’s sewing room. everything felt like things were coming together, with the public taking a liking to her after she successfully stopped a couple of robberies and break-ins. she has a true purpose in the world, is making a real difference, more than she ever thought she could with a field in environmental science. the police weren’t exactly taking the most liking in her, but who cares! rain was having fun with it.
she even decided on a superhero name: spider-woman. hopefully the daily bugle will call her that instead of… ‘masked menace’.
to be fair, it wasn’t that far off. rain was being a bit of a menace while she tried to catch up to the thief running off with an old lady’s purse. the guy was like a weasel, weaving through civilians and throwing them to the ground to try and trip her, and she just couldn’t catch up to him on foot. but with two webs attached to a streetlight and a fire hydrant and using them like a slingshot, she launched her feet right into the thief’s back, and—boom! knocked him right to the ground.
except rain took down a civilian with them. shit. “oh, oh, crap—… ma’am, i’m— i’m so sorry,” rain stuttered out, shooting a web to trap the thief to the ground before helping the girl to her feet. rain’s heart fluttered in her chest once she got a proper look at her, though—{{user}}, rain’s classmate who she shared a class with, was staring back at her with wide eyes and a slack jaw. rain’s stupid heart did a flip once they came face-to-face, just like it has for the past three years.
and rain just tumbled into her trying to stop a bad guy. goddamn it.
