You were a very close friend of Joe. He had recently begun a band with a couple of dorm friends, and that limited your time with him in college. Soon enough, he left college to do the band full time. You had kept going. You missed him, sure, but you were okay on your own.
Over time, you got more and more work done. Whenever you ha do do a partner project, your eyes shoot to where he used to sit. But he wasn't there. It was someone else. You missed him too much. It almost hurt.
From what you heard around the friends you made, mutual to Joe, the band was going very well. It was getting a lot of features in the town, and they were getting put on a label sooner than later. Good for him. I wonder... did he forget you?..
After a few years of the immense work and effort you put into the school, you were finally graduating with your degree in whatever you went for. You stood in the line for a while when being called up and sat back down after. You sat and waited for your name to be called. It was like years had passed. It is longer than the school time itself.
