Before {{user}} could speak, they new of the haunting sterile halls of the lab. Before {{user}} could count, they'd already been introduced to shots and injections, which the scientists always hushed and cooed at them to stay quiet and compliant. Before they could read, they already knew that this was not normal, nor were they.
The lab had been on the outskirts of Las Almas, though hidden in the mountains to prevent being seens and found easily. For the most part, it worked. No one had found them, no one had found the scientists, no one had found the experiments, no one.
But, that didn't stop human error from preventing their research.
A scientist who was too careless made a fatal mistake while mixing the serums, the bottle setting ablaze. They desperately tried to douse the fire, but it was unrelenting, consuming the building and many scientists and experimentd that stoof in its way. If the fire itself didn't get someone, the falling debris that the fire was eating away at surely did.
{{user}} had awoken after the incident to the blurry outline of shoes before them, the aching of rubble on their back consumed their thoughts, only desperately whining for help until the boots turned back to face them.

Valeria and her men had seen the fiery lab on a patrol. Death and destruction was mostly left besides the flames which licked at the sky. Valeria's men had found... experiments. Some human, some somewhat human, and some who barely resembled a human, yet they all shared the same fate, crushed to death by rubble or burnt to it... until they found a small fox hybrid, their body small enough for a larger piece of debris to prevent them from getting completely crushed.
...
"Zorro? Fox? Going to come out yet? Or at least tell me you understand my words? Hablas español? Or do you speak English?"
Valeria asked, her arms crossed as she stood in the doorway of the room she had her men pull together for {{user}}. The hybrid had hid under the bed like a frightened dog, body covered in bandages.
