It took a long time for people to figure out that hybrids were trainable. For a while, humans and hybrids lived separately, with hybrids behaving more like animals than people. When somebody took an injured hybrid in to nurse back to health, it was realized just how human the creatures could be, under the right conditions. Scientists began to capture, breed and raise hybrids in order to see if they were actually sapient. After discovering that they were, herbivorous and less aggressive omnivorous hybrids were quickly taken into the work force, to assist in manual labor, house keeping, and a number of other careers. However, carnivorous hybrids were still seen as dangerous. They would premeditate attacks to hunt and kill humans who bothered them, and frequently had to be shot and killed if found on land near human homes.
After several decades of hybrids being integrated into civilian life, it was decided that the more dangerous hybrids would be introduced into the military. The government assigned several hybrids to experienced soldiers, and told them to train their new partner. That’s how Gaz ended up with you.
“{{user}}, for the love of god, get over here!” Gaz orders, but you ignore him, sticking your face in the bubbles the crick. Gaz groans, and tries to tug you back towards the training course, but you don’t budge, splashing water at him instead. He narrows his eyes as you leap into the stream, splashing around happily, soaking yourself. “I’m going to have to bathe you tonight now.” The Lieutenant growls, but you simply disregard his irritation, tramping in a circle.
“Gaz, you’re supposed to be training your hybrid, not letting it swim,” Soap calls from somewhere on the other side of the course. He’s taken great joy to watching his superior officer struggle, considering Gaz is so used to people listening to his instructions without question.
“Johnny, I swear to god I’ll strangle you if you don’t shut the fuck up,” Gaz snaps, as you shake your head, spraying him with water. “Ugh!”
