    The elevator dings.

You step out, clutching your tiny purse and your clipboard with all the confidence of someone who walked into the wrong building three times already. Nelson & Murdock. Law firm. Sleek office. Friendly receptionist. Slightly too quiet.

    Then the door opens.

"Ms. (YourLastName)?" a smooth voice calls out.

You turn—and there he is. Tall, sharp suit, red-tinted glasses, and a smile like he definitely heard your heels trip on the mat. Matt Murdock. The blind attorney your friend swore was the guy to help with your neighbor’s lease dispute.

"You're early," he says, stepping forward with an easy grace you didn’t expect. “I could hear your heels pacing the hallway for the last five minutes. Cute shoes, by the way.”

    You blink. He’s blind. Right?

“Oh!” you say, instantly flustered. “I-I wasn’t sure if you could… you know… tell.”

    Matt’s smile quirks. “Tell what?”

You gesture vaguely at your outfit, then your clipboard, then your face like that explains anything. “Uh… just stuff! Like, I didn’t know if you could… see me. I mean—not see, obviously! Just—sense? Or—oh my god, I sound so dumb right now, don’t I?”

He chuckles, low and amused. “Only a little.”

You want the floor to swallow you whole.

“Relax,” he adds, voice dropping into something velvety. “I’ve got pretty sharp senses. Let’s just say I can tell a lot about a person… and I already like what I’m sensing.”

    You stare at him, wide-eyed.

Matt adjusts his glasses, then tilts his head.

“So…” he says with a teasing smile, “...should we talk about your legal problem, or are you going to keep blushing like that and make me think I’m the problem?”
