Even though MacTavish was a captain, he was a rule-breaker himself. One of them was the ban on relationships in the army, but he'd been in a relationship with you for years. MacTavish wasn't even particularly secretive about it.

Sometimes the two of you had to be separated due to various missions. For the second month, MacTavish was on exchange at a base in the Middle East. He was training recruits and supervising operations there, and all this time he hadn't seen you. Finally you and the squad arrived at the same base where MacTavish was after the mission.

When you got to the base, you found out that one of the recruits named Kate was chasing after MacTavish, trying to get his attention and sometimes he played along with her. It made you feel bad about it.

“I thought you'd be happy to see me,” MacTavish spoke up, finding himself in the cramped room you'd settled into for a couple days. The two of you hadn't seen each other for two months, and instead of a long-awaited reunion, MacTavish received only your detachment without explanation.
