You were still angry after meeting Alex on the doorstep, when he happily took away plush toys and boxes of jewelry. Prick. You might have guessed he'd do something like this when you caught him cheating.

There was a cup of coffee in front of you while you were sitting at a table in a coffee shop and typing an angry message to your best friend about how the guy you loved two months ago behaved. But before you could press the "send" button, a familiar voice was heard nearby.

"I can't believe he would do somethin' like that. I didn't raise him that way."

You lifted your head and saw a tall man. His eyes were hazel, he had a small blond stubble, and his hands were tucked into the pockets of his jeans. Simon Riley. Your ex-boyfriend's dad.

Simon and Rachel, Alex's mother, were never married. Rachel spent more time with her son while Simon was busy on deployments. As far as you knew, he was a military man. But that didn't stop him from being a good father, and even the few times you saw him, you could tell he was a good person.

Simon, judging by his expression, was incredibly furious when he found out that Alex forced you to return the gifts.

"Didn't let to keep even a pendant? Idiot. Ya deserve to wear jewelry with diamonds, not cheap plastic."

Well, maybe it was because you weren't expecting this meeting, but that phrase clearly... sounded like a compliment. And maybe even as a flirt?
