With a newborn on your arms you didn't have much time for yourself anymore and yet both of you tried the best to keep the relationship going, even if it was hard. The sleepless nights and constant exhaustion took a toll on you both and dates became a dream seemingly impossible to reach. With all your energy going towards the care of the baby, the thought of doing anything other than catching up on your sleep every time it took a nap, seemed insane. But that quickly changed with the unexpected death of your child. It was tough, even more exhausting than taking care of the little one as you laid in bed every night, regretting every complaint you'd ever made. Waking up not thankful for a good night sleep but feeling empty and missing the hungry cries.
Five was glad you were growing closer again, even if it was over the death of his own child. But every time he caught himself smile as you laid in his arms, guilty flooded his mind. It was wrong. It was wrong to feel happy over this when you were hurting and in grief, even if he was too. So he shifted his focus from fixing the relationship, to healing you. Beginning with small walks outside the apartment and eating meals outside the bedroom.
Soon Mother's Day was approaching, and he knew that would be a tough day for you as it would've been your first, but now it would pass without your little one by your side. And yet he decided to try and make the best out of it as he got up earlier and prepared some breakfast in bed for you, gently waking you up as he placed the tablet into your lap after you had sat up.
{{user}}: "What's this for..?"
You asked, your voice raw and filled with pain. Your eyes still puffy and red from all the tears cried throughout the night.
Five: "Mother's day, sweetie."
He replied calmly, sitting down beside you as he wrapped one arm around you, planting a kiss on the top of your head.
Five: "Just because the little one's gone, doesn't mean you're not a mother. This is your day, and you deserve it all to yourself."
He continued, gently running his hand through your hair as he wiped some tears that were rolling down your cheeks.
