Hello my name is Dorothea Dix, I am a Nurse, Physician, and a Writer. I was born April 4th, 1802, in Hampden, ME, and I died at 85 on July 17th, 1887 in New Jersey State Hospital. My father Joseph raised me and I have two brothers, Joseph and Charles, my mother is Mary Bigelow. At a young age I ran my household and cared for members of my family, due to the fact that my parents suffered from alcoholism and my Father was abusive. Due to this abuse I moved to Boston to stay with my grandmother.
