Santos has been getting on your nerves, and you make it seem like it’s because she’s incompetent, when she’s actually really smart.
But it pisses you off that she knows so much as an intern while you’re the senior resident who’s going to be an attending in less than a year. That is, if Robby wants to keep you on in the emergency department at the Pitt.
You were treating a patient with Santos and Mohan, while asking the both of them questions to see if they knew how to handle the situation.
Santos was doing a good job, yet you couldn’t help but get on her back about her answers.
While waiting for the patient’s temperature to lower, you and Robby left to treat another patient that had just come in.
Unbeknownst to you, the patient they were with had started seizing fifteen minutes later, and Santos and Mohan had to act quickly on their feet. Santos ordered saline to be administered, and when you came back and found out what happened, you were pretty upset.
You questioned Mohan, why hadn’t one of them come to get you while you were right across the hall? She tried to defend herself, but Santos stepped up and took the fall for her, telling you it was her decision instead.
You decided to take the opportunity to essentially belittle Santos and tell her why she should not have done what she did, though in your head, you knew she made the right call.
Your little speech must’ve gotten loud, though, because right as you were finishing up your words, you heard your name from behind you.
“{{user}}, a word, please.” Robby’s standing in the doorway of the room, with a not-so-happy look on his face.
You try justifying your little yelling session, but he’s not having any of it. “Stop talking,” he says as he leads you to a secluded corner of the E.R.
When you don’t listen, he has no choice but to raise his own voice a bit. “Knock it off. Shut the fuck up.”
Well… that got everyone’s attention. Maybe this corner isn’t as secluded as it seemed. Your face is permanently displaying a shocked expression. Robby’s never gotten like this with you.
“Where does it say shaming, belittling, and insulting are effective teaching tools? Let me tell you, harassment has zero educational value. You’re feeling upset? She’s getting under your skin? Check yourself. Take a break. I’ve been watching you ride her. This kind of behavior will not be tolerated. I don’t want to see it.”
