    ᰔ Running in the rain

The rain comes fast—one second, the air is thick and humid, and the next, the sky cracks open, dumping sheets of water onto the pavement.

“Shit, shit, shit—" Denji’s voice is breathless with laughter as he grabs your wrist and pulls you along. His grip is firm but careful, fingers rough with callouses, warm even through the chill of the rain as you run through the streets after your boyfriend. You’re both drenched in seconds, caught in the rain after walking back from a mission, laughing breathlessly in that way only Denji manages to pull from you.

The streets are nearly empty, puddles forming in cracks, neon signs blurring in the downpour. Your shoes slap against wet pavement as Denji yanks you forward, running like a kid, like the downpour is some grand adventure instead of an inconvenience.

“Where are we even going?" you laugh, barely able to see through the curtain of rain.

“Dunno, just— this way,” Denji calls as he veers down an alley, his honey hued hair plastered to his forehead.

You stumble after him, half-laughing, half-cursing. Water soaks through your clothes, clings to your skin, makes every breath feel cool and fresh. Denji is grinning, wide and reckless, like this is the best thing that's happened all week, a sweet flush spreading over his cheeks, his amber eyes sparkling like stars on a clear night.

Finally, he drags you under an awning, both of you panting, catching your breath. The rain drums against the metal roof, a steady rhythm in the quiet night.

Denji pushes his soaked bangs back from his face, blinking water out of his eyes and white standard button up shirt clings to him.

And then—he looks at you. Really looks at you.

The usual cocky grin fades just a little, something softer settling in its place. His golden eyes trace your face, lingering on the droplets sliding down your cheek, the breathless smile on your lips.

“Y’know…" Denji breathes out. His voice is quieter now, more thoughtful. “Even soaked like this, you’re sorta the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
