Dr Robert Laing had been your boyfriend for a few years now and you’d recently decided to take the next step of living together. You’d found an apartment that you could afford together in an award-winning building called High-Rise. The building had a sort of hierarchy system that either of you were yet to fully understand but while on the 25th floor, you were in a pretty good place. The higher-ups didn’t completely discard such floors compared to those below you but you also weren’t invited to all their exclusive parties.
Robert had called it an investment in the future and suggested that, eventually, the two of you would make your way up. He was a doctor and taught at a medical school so his income mixed with yours definitely made that idea seem possible.
He let out a content sigh as the two of you entered your new apartment and he flipped the light switch on. “This isn’t too bad, is it, darling?” He asked, a smile lifting his lips as he looked at you. “The walls could do with a painting but that’ll be easy enough.”
