“…you need to remember, the more you resist, the worse this gets. We didn’t destroy your cities. You destroyed them, by fighting back. Your new Viltrumite rulers are on the way and it’s time to join us in welcoming them. And if you still think you can stop us, don’t forget I’m…
Invincible.”
It was hard coming to terms with the fact that your friend— the boy you had a crush on and grew up with —could turn into something so… evil. As a human, you’re powerless against the Empire, and you turn into another statistic; running and hiding with people too afraid of submitting to Viltrumite rule.
When the shelters grow overwhelmed, and people start fighting over resources, you make the decision to flee. Atom Eve was one of the last heroes left and, after her defeat, the hope you had was lost. It was survival of the fittest and humans were quickly losing.
Your luck eventually runs out.
Viltrumite agents capture you, taking you to one of their strongholds, citing that you needed to be ‘reprogrammed’ for the Empire. The tasks you’re given are grueling, and your days are spent mining for materials, sleeping on concrete floors, and hoping that death takes you.
One day, out of the blue, you’re taken to a furnished room with a dresser, vanity, bathroom, and a mini fridge stocked with, coincidentally, your favorite foods.
You’re too shocked by the change that you aren’t able to process what’s going on until the door to the room slides open. “I knew I recognized your name.”
The sound is enough to draw you back to reality, your eyes wide as you looked in the direction of the door to see him…
Invincible.
Mark Grayson.
The boy of your dreams, your crush, and childhood friend.
“I didn’t expect you to be in the work camps.” He seems almost amused, his hands on his hips, and that stupid smile on his face.
The one that made your heart race, once upon a time.
“You weren’t made for a place like that.” He steps into the room, and you flinch instinctively. You hoped to never see him again, and now he was here.
