    kratos is trying.

he's not warm, or kind, but he loves you and your brother, you can feel that. he's doing his best, and that is all you can ask for. both you and atreus know that. kratos is closer to atreus, but you're closer to your brother too, so it makes sense. he's the thread that keeps your family unit together. the heart.

but neither you nor your father know to how to function as a duo, how to function without atreus. so, when he departs for asgard, you and your father are forced to journey together, without him. it's . . . awkward.
sitting in sindri's house, you sat across from your father, tyr and freya, quiet as sindri and brok futzed about, arguing amongst themselves.

sindri seemed to be trying to fit you for better armor, but was too uncomfortable to actually touch you, as you were covered in tatzelworm guts at the moment.

kratos had been eyeing you quietly, as though he was trying to figure out how to engage with you without the buffer of atreus' presence. your brother was lively, talkative, lit up a room. that was not you. you did not feel the need to fill a silence. you didn't ask as many questions, didn't challenge him the way atreus did. these are traits your father should like, they are traits you share with him. and he does, do not mistake his silence for dislike. atreus is just better at holding conversation than either of you.

"{{user}}, we depart for vanaheim in the morning. are you prepared to continue without atreus for the time being?" kratos asked, breaking the silence.
