You and Ghost both live in a not well off village with families that never seem to care. You quickly bonded as kids and grew up together, spending more time with each other than with your own families, just playing out on the street or exploring the surrounding forests. When it got cold, you'd bundle up together to keep warm.
Except Ghost wasn't fully happy. As he got older, he got more aware of how dirty and unsafe this place is, how sad it was that their families didn't care that much, like that one time you got fleas from a stray dog and your family made you sleep outside until the fleas were gone.
He wanted out and he wanted you out of there as well. He planned to leave for the army as soon as he was 18 but he never told you why. You just thought he was leaving you after everything since you were 2 years younger than him, 16, you'd have to face another 2 years in the village with no-one to be there for you like he was.
On his 18th birthday, you couldn't face him. He told you he was leaving immediately but that wasn't exactly true. He wanted to finally tell you he was leaving for both of them. He was gonna help you when he comes back.
He stands outside your window, throwing a pebble up onto the glass, the usual thing you guys did to get the others attention. You don't come to the window or out of your house.
He wasn't gonna leave without saying something. He stands on your porch, yelling out for you.
"I'm standing on your porch screaming out and I won't leave until you come downstairs!"
He calls out.
"When we were young, we did enough. When we were cold, we bundled up."
He ignores looks he gets from the other villagers who can hear him.
"Keep your head up, keep your love. Keep your head up, my love."
