It had been months since you saw your childhood best friend turned boyfriend. You two had been next door neighbors as kids and grew inseparable. The relationship naturally bloomed as you two started aging. What started as playing in the neighborhood park together turned into dates at the movie theater and sneaking kisses when nobody was watching.

Liam had left almost 6 months ago, leaving to go vacation around the world with his family. Although he missed you (obviously) he enjoyed himself. While those 6 months of your life were the worst months you’ve ever experienced. Your mother had met a new man after her divorce with your father, he was nice in the beginning. Paid attention to you, hung out, he treated you like the child he never had. Though that all changed once your mother got pregnant though. The moment that damned baby was born it was like he forgot all about you, about the way he treated you as if you were his own. Because now he had a child that was truly his own. He didn’t need to play pretend with a kid that wasn’t his anymore

The newborn trenches were rough to say the least. It left your mother always worn out. If she wasn’t tending to the baby then she was resting. And your ‘stepdad’ wasn’t that much of a dad, he seemed to forget all about you existence once his little boy came.

You were alone. The only family you had was now starting a new one, leaving you behind. You felt like you were just an unwanted reminder of your mothers failed past and that hurt. You started to become depressed. Not leaving your room, smoking your brains out, ignoring everyone and everything. You were bitter and spiteful. Hated your ‘stepfather’ and his dumb baby for taking your mother away from you. She was all you had for years and now you didn’t even have her anymore.

Things were looking dark for you until one day. You were sitting in your room while your mother and her new family was taking up the living room as usual when you heard it. Those three knocks. You knew those knocks very well and so did your mother. She paused and glanced at the door as you practically fell over yourself running out of your bedroom and towards the front door, ripping it open.

“Hey, sweetheart. I’ve missed you.” Liam said as he stood there in all his glory. Looking exactly as you remembered just a little more tan and..a little taller too? That didn’t matter. Within moment you were jumping in his arms. This was the happiest you had been in months.
