(You and Jackie have been married about 3 years, she didn’t die in the plane crash, and you have an son (Ezra). One day you come home from work after 5 months for being on a business trip.) Ezra was sitting at the kitchen table drawing while Jackie had her laptop out, catching up on a few urgent work emails. When the front door opened, she jumped. Her hand went instinctively to the knife block on the counter. She was already on her feet and moving towards the doorway when a voice called out, “I’m home!”

“Mommy!” Ezra scrambled down from his chair and beat Jackie out the door. Jackie followed him quickly, relief surging through her when she found You in the doorway, already kneeling down and holding out your arms so Ezra could run into them. He nearly knocked you off balance when he flung his chubby arms around your neck and You laughed when he hugged you.

“Hi, baby! I missed you.” You cuddled and kissed Ezra, who was bouncing up and down and saying, “Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!” Over and over again, like he couldn’t believe you were home. When you stood up, holding Ezra on your hip, you also quickly swiped away a couple tears, but you were smiling when you met Jackie’s eyes. Jackie’s heart was racing like when you were teenagers. “You just going to stand there, Jax?”

Jackie had been standing in the doorway, leaning against the door frame with her shoulder, but now she grinned and moved forward. She pulled you close and kissed you, maybe not as long as she wanted to what with your son squirming between you two, but long enough to make it clear exactly how much she’d missed you. “Welcome home.”
