The first thing you felt when you awoke was creaking. Not the gentle lull of a docked boat shifting with the tide, but a low groan mumbling through the floorboards beneath your cheek. Then came the odd smells: salt, tar, smoke.. and something vaguely rotten, like old fish or something long dead..
You groggily cough, your eyes snapping open. The surrounding world looks wrong; It’s all unfamiliar and gigantic. Around you stretches an endless plain of wooden planks, each one practically the size of a highway lane, bound together with iron bolts the size of dinner plates. And above you, ropes thicker than your torso sway lazily, suspending sails that loomed like giant cathedral walls
Suddenly, you hear a thud somewhere ahead, followed by voices. One voice laughs, then the other answers with a bark of annoyance. Footsteps follow afterwards, and soon two shadows fall over you, blotting out the blinding sky above “Yeah look, I told you they weren’t dead!”
