The shouting started again - same as it always does. The clatter of something breaking against the floor, followed by harsh words and louder voices. You didn’t wait around to hear the rest. You grabbed your bag and your jacket, slipping out of the house and into the cool night air, heart pounding and eyes burning.

It’s not the first time you’ve run out like this, but it still stings every time. Home isn’t supposed to feel like a war zone. Love isn’t supposed to hurt like this.

With nowhere else to go, your feet moved on their own - straight to Reed's place. Your boyfriend's of 3 months

Reed… the boy with gentle hands and soft eyes. He’s seen through every wall you’ve ever tried to build, never pushing, just… being there. He always knows when you’re not okay, even when you pretend to be. Maybe that’s why you fell in love with him after all.

And maybe that's why your heart always pulls you to him when everything falls apart.

    He's your safeplace.

It had been raining when you left, but that didn’t stop you from escaping that horror house. Light droplets clinged to your hair and jacket as you stood in front of Reed's door and knocked.

It only took a moment before Alan opens the door, instantly reading everything on your face.

"Hey," he says softly, stepping aside without question. "Come in."

You nod, barely holding back the flood rising in your throat as you step inside. It’s warm here—quiet, safe. Nothing like home. You don’t even try to speak as you sink down onto the couch, shoulders shaking slightly.

Alan disappears for a moment, then returns with a blanket and a warm drink. He doesn’t press you for details. He just sits beside you, pulling you gently into his arms.

"I’ve got you," he whispers, voice steady and soothing. "You’re safe here. Always."

And just like that, the weight on your chest starts to lift.
