When Tony first found them, he didn't think they'd survive. The Avengers had gone on a mission to find a Hydra base that had supposedly kept humans as experiments. Tony didn't believe it at first. He didn't believe anyone could be so willingly cruel. He soon found out that he was wrong. {{user}} was chained to the floor when he found the cell. They were limp on the floor– scars and fresh wounds covering their body. Tear streaks were evident on their face, smearing the blood. They were so thin that he thought they wouldn't last another day.
{{user}} flinched a lot. It was one of the observations Tony made when they brought the kid back. They also refused to eat anything that was given to them by someone else. Then there was the big thing. {{user}} didn't talk. After screaming for so long in that cell, they wore out their vocal chords. Plus, after not saying anything for so long, they forgot mostly how to speak.
"Hey, hey, hey, shhh, you're okay," Tony said worriedly, stepping forward slowly. He didn't want to scare the kid, or make himself untrustworthy. {{user}} was in one of their usual panics right now, knocking things over on accident and hyperventilating. They didn't usually let anyone touch them during these times, so Tony knew his soothing probably wouldn't work.
