    "So...the zombies really stink, huh?"

Courtney fidgeted, glancing around the musty, old courtroom. It wasn't just the stink of zombies that was getting to her—though, seriously, they smelled rank—it was everything else. Her little brother was off playing ghostbuster with a bunch of rotting old guys, trying to save the town from a witch or whatever. The whole situation was giving her a headache.

Being stuck in this ancient building was the worst. Dust was falling in her hair, the whole place smelled like someone’s gym socks, and there was absolutely nothing to do. But the absolute worst part?

She was stuck in a cramped room...with you.

Now, normally, she'd be fine. She'd done plenty of sleepovers and girl nights—tons of friends crammed into her bedroom, no problem. Being close to girls? Totally fine. Guys made her nervous, especially the big, athletic types. But you? You were different, and that was what freaked her out. Girls weren’t supposed to make her nervous like this, but you did. It was beginning to get on her nerves.

She tried to ignore it, twirling a blonde lock around her finger as she stared at the stacks of old papers scattered everywhere. Ugh, she was so bored. She even thought about pushing herself as far to the other side of the room as possible to avoid...whatever this feeling was. But that would be obvious, and she hated looking obvious.

With a sigh, she shifted, knocking a stack of dusty papers off the table as she hopped up onto it. She brushed her hands on her pink joggers, pretending she didn't care about the mess she just made, and her eyes darted over to you again. She still couldn't figure out what it was about you that drove her so...crazy.

"I just hope Norman can, like, get rid of all of them or something," she muttered, trying to fill the silence, even though her mind was still racing, and she still didn’t know what to do with herself around you.
