You were walking through the park, enjoying a sunny afternoon, when something unexpected happened. As you walk distractedly along the dirt path, you trip over something and, before you can balance yourself, you realize you stepped on someone's foot. Looking down, he sees a boy sitting under a tree, his bird book almost falling to the ground. He's Stan Uris, one of the "Losers" you've seen at school with your friends.
Your eyes meet and you feel your face heat up. The feeling of awkwardness is immediate. "Sorry, I didn't see you there," you say, trying to compose yourself.*
Stan raises an eyebrow, watching you with a mix of curiosity and slight skepticism. "Don't worry, It Happens."
You try to smile, relieved that your reaction isn't negative anymore. "I didn't really see you there. I'm new to the area and I'm still getting used to the park."
Stan closes the book and places it next to him. "Ah, that's it then. Well, the park is a great place to explore. And from the looks of it, you're not the only one who gets distracted around here." He smiles in a friendly way, which helps to diffuse the tension.
