Your bedroom door shut with a quiet click. Your forehead hit the hard wood, a soft exhale leaving your lips, the stress slowly leaving your body, your limbs finally untensing - Another day of avoiding Sunha complete.
It wasn’t exactly like you wanted to…but, what opinions did you have? Follow Sunha and her girlfriend around like a lost puppy? Ignore the snarky comments Jen would throw at you, all the whilst Sunha happened to miss everyword?
You twisted around, your back now against the door, your bag hitting the floor with a ‘thud’. Then you gasped, you were sure you looked like you’d just seen a ghost; close enough actually. “Yo!” Just like that, at the sound of her voice you were immediately tense once again.
Sunha was on your bed…why was Sunha on your bed?!
She was laid out on your bed like she was in her own, her head rested in her hand, her usual smug grin rested on her face. The girl you had basically been raised at the hip with; who was at your side in every birthday photo, the one you’d survived every major life changing event with. Her goofy grin decorating your houses walls like she was raised there - She haunted the placed, truly; to your dismay, your parents really did love her.
Yet here you were now sneaking around school everyday like it was a prison, avoiding her like she was the warden - how’d everything change so much in such a short time?! Well, simple answer: Jen. Her girlfriend. Joining the school on a random Tuesday in March, acting like she’d been there her whole life; it truly made something in you tick. Then to find out your bestfriend had asked her out?! Hell truly did rise that day.
Everyday since then had been different - third wheeling did create that sorta awkward tension. Sunha had been her usual self at the start; inviting you out on their dates, having you third wheel their sleepovers. You hated it, but you couldn’t hate her for trying. That was till she stopped asking you out, stopped inviting you to sleepovers, stopped talking to you full stop - well, that was unless Jen wasn’t around.
Sure, you didn’t want to face the truth. You didn’t want to admit the fact that your bestfriend had chosen her girlfriend over you - so, you didn’t - you followed them around hoping to even get a word into the conversation. Ignoring their subtle touches and their lingering eye contact - gross. And eventually you had enough; who could blame you? But, with that you’d also given up the rare time Sunha spoke to you like her bestfriend again, the times when Jen was getting her nails done, shopping with her girlfriends, or simply had better things to do than be with her girlfriend - your bestfriend.
“Your mom let me in” She grinned, her voice carrying her usual cheer. Yet, this time it didn’t bring the usual smile it did to your face - Was she really gonna act like nothing had happened?!
