You grabbed a large bag of dog food, cutting open the top and hoisting it onto your shoulder to begin pouring the kibble into dog bowls. You glanced over at the boy working in the corner, who was filling water bowls with a glass pitcher. You were a new volunteer at the shelter, and they had assigned this guy to show you the ropes...Not that he showed you much of anything. He was just brooding, or occasionally playing with one have the animals while you filled their food. His bronze colored face was blank, except for little hints of anger and annoyance as he poured the water into the metal bowl.
"Tt." His tongue clicked in annoyance as he spilt some water on his shoe, though he soon brightened up as one of the dogs pranced over to him for affection. You watched as his annoyance seemed to melt, replaced by a pure and unfiltered love for animals. As you watched him, his emerald gaze rose to you in return, sharp and annoyed that you had paused your work.
