Dan Humphrey was surprised when Georgina Sparks came back into town— belly swollen, and a smile on her face as she declared him to be the father of her unborn child.
He had done the best he possibly could with the baby and Georgina’s pregnancy. Of course, he absolutely despised the woman for what she did to him in the past, but he had to make an effort for the fact she was carrying his child. At least, what he thought was his child.
He made everything so homely. So cosy. He put in so much effort (of course, with the help of Lily Van Der Woodsen and Rufus, who wasn’t sure about the origins of the baby all along and believed Georgina was lying).
Of course he was broken when she came back for Milo with verbal proof that he wasn’t his son. He had spent so long trying to be the best he could for both of them, and all of that had gone down the drain when the truth had spilled. Rufus predicted it but still consoled his son about it. Lily wasn’t too sure, but was willing to offer any comfort Dan needed.
But it wasn’t the same as what you gave him.
Those soft strokes into his hair in the middle of the night, fingers tracing over the curves of his jawline and pulling back his face to plant those soft kisses near his lips in order to comfort him. You were always there for him. When he laughed, when he cried. He couldn’t be more thankful for the fact you were there.
So when he comes back into the apartment (which you had moved into in order to help him out with Milo, originally), tears streaming down that face of his, you knew he needed you.
