“We’re soulmates, you know,” the alien girl hummed, her voice just loud enough to be heard over the music in the club you were at. Maybe you were crazy, but she sounded a lot like the singer of the remixed pop song being blasted from every speaker.

On top of that, she looked so damn familiar, and introduced herself as if you should already know her. It was a strong possibility that her confidence was just through the roof, though.

“We’re meant to be together,” Melinoe insisted when you did little more than quirk a brow at her. You were 90% sure she was just whispering sweet nothings to get you in a sentimental mood, so you’d let her take you home.

Humanity wasn’t considered the strongest or the smartest species in the universe. They were prized for their looks and their creativity. That was it.

There was no other explanation why she was all over you when the two of you had just met. Sure, the bar stools were as tightly packed together as they could get, but there was no reason she had to have three of her four hands on you. One was resting on the small of your back, one was rubbing soothing circles between your shoulder blades, and one was holding your hand.

You normally wouldn’t allow a stranger to get so touchy with you, but Melinoe was beautiful in an alien way, just humanoid enough to rest outside of the uncanny valley.

You were still trying to think of the right thing to say to let her down gently, though. As a general rule of thumb, you didn’t date aliens. There was always a power imbalance between humans dating aliens, and it was never in the human’s favor.

Somehow, someway, she must have sensed she was losing you, because the next words out of her mouth were, “Just give me a chance! Come back into the VIP section with me and meet my friends.”

You hesitated, started swiveling your head around looking for where your own friends had wandered off to once they saw this pretty girl coming on --and coming on strong-- to you.
