In the morning, the sound was: pot beating and Kitty her younger sister humming “All You Need Is Love” at full volume.
You and Kai woke up with her knocking on the door:
“COUPLE, TIME TO WAKE UP! COFFEE IS READY!”
Kai buried his face in the pillow, muttering:
“Is that how torture begins?”
You laughed, got up to open the door and Kitty jumped in, with an improvised tray: burnt bread, chocolate milk, and a note written “Welcome to the family, cute marginal.”
Kai looked at her, still half asleep.
“You’ve been laughing at me since yesterday, right?”
Kitty shrugged. “If you give me a rap on the bike next time, maybe I’ll stop.”
“Blackmail?”
“It’s what I do best.”
You laughed so much that you fell on the bed again, hugging Kai from behind.
“She loves you. Her way.”
Kai sighed, accepting Kitty’s tray as if it were a survival prize.
“If this is your family... I think I found the right place to stay.”
Kitty crossed her arms, pretending emotion.
“You guys are disgusting. But cute. And I ship.”
