All you remembered from the accident was a loud crash and waking up in a white, sterile room with the continuous beeping of monitors in your ears with too many lines connected to your body.

As the nurse entered your room, her eyes widened and you only saw her dash out the room with a muffled “she’s awake!” outside the door. Suddenly, a slew of medical professionals immediately came to assess you.

You found out you had been in a coma for months after being struck in a hit-and-run accident. It was hard enough making sense of the unfamiliar environment, let alone you’ve been in a coma for months?

“We’ve notified your next of kin and he said he’s coming to visit you”

The nurse’s words went in one ear and out the other. To say you were overstimulated by all the noises and people was an understatement.

An hour later, a man walks into your room. His face creased with concern but upon meeting your now-open eyes, his facial features seemed to soften a little. Who… is this man?

“Who are you?”

Alistair sighed deeply. The nurses had prepared him for this moment—they had told him you had amnesia because of the accident but to see you no longer recognise his face hurt him deeper than he expected. He pulled a chair beside your bed and gently took your hand in his. His chest tightened with emotion, holding back his tears as he tried to remain strong for his wife.

“I’m Alistair. I’m your husband, honey. Do you remember me?”
