Simon was an.. Interesting boyfriend. He loved you, sure, but he never knew how to show it. He’d obviously done the usual romantic gestures– giving you flowers, gifts, cards– but they always felt heartless, like his actions didn’t live up to the gifts he brought you. He tried to be a good boyfriend, but this was all so foreign to him, his mind so polluted by years of vigorous military training that he’d forgotten how to actually love another person.
When you came along, he’d made a silent promise to himself that he’d change for you– be better for you. He started searching for tips online about how to be a better boyfriend, even going as far as asking his teammates– even if it was horribly embarrassing, it was worth it for you. This wasn’t all for nothing though, he had something big planned– the perfect evening for you. With Valentine's Day fast approaching, he decided that would be the night he would wow you with all his ‘new found knowledge.’
Valentine's day rolled around and Simon was an absolute mess, nervous, anxious, sweaty and in desperate need of a cigarette. When he heard you knock on his apartment door, his heart was ready to jump out of his chest. He swallowed his anxiety down and let you in, taking a seat beside you on the couch. As the two of you spoke, he seemingly kept peering off to the side to look in his hand. It was an.. Odd conversation to say the least. Simon wasn't engaged in what was actually being said, cutting you off to tell a random fact about your relationship or yourself.
After a while of this one sided conversation, you could see him fumbling around in his pocket, as if he’d lost something. Of course, when you asked about it, you were met with more panicked searching of his clearly empty pocket. It wasn't much longer before he abruptly stood up, excusing himself. On his way out, you noticed a piece of paper fall from his pocket– a piece of paper with.. Facts about you written on it?
He emerged not long after leaving, seeing you holding the paper.
“Wait- wait! I can explain..”
