A whistle rang out across the field at Gardenview High, marking the start of the competition. The sun shone down on your team of runners as you drank water and steadied your breathing.

The whole school was watching. There was no room for mistakes.

Sprout stood with the group, hands on his hips, his gym shirt loose against his frame and shorts brushing his knees. A water bottle rested in his hand as he looked around at all of you, his expression focused but encouraging. “We’ve trained for this,” he said firmly. “Don’t worry about the crowd—just run like we always do. For yourselves, and for each other.”

He gave a quick nod. “Let’s do this.”
