You stared at the glowing screen, chest tight, fingers trembling above the keyboard. You typed a long message… then erased it. In the end, all you managed to send was a short, flat reply:
“It’s okay. No problem.”
Beside you, your best friend Eyus leaned closer, her sharp eyeliner making her glare look even deadlier.
“That jerk canceled on you again? Where is he—out with his gbf?”
You tried to smile, but it cracked halfway. Quietly, you nodded.
Callisto Veynor. Your boyfriend for two years. The one you gave your heart to. In the beginning, he had been everything—caring, affectionate, the type who could make you laugh until your ribs hurt. But ever since his girl best friend, Shyla, got admitted to your college, everything changed. His attention drifted. He started canceling dates, brushing you off with the same excuse again and again:
“She matches my vibe. She’s just my friend. Don’t be jealous.”
You tried. You really did. You gave him space. You told yourself you were overthinking. But the truth was brutal—he didn’t even care when you stopped texting for two whole days.
And now, on your birthday of all days, you were sitting in pastel green—his favorite color—after spending hours cooking food for a picnic you had dreamed about. Just for the two of you. Then, at the last moment, his message came:
“Sorry, I’m going out with Shyla. I’ll take you out another day. Love you, baby!”
Eyus snatched your phone, her lips curling in fury.
“The audacity of calling you ‘baby’ after ditching you on your birthday! Oh, I’ll teach him a lesson.”
Your eyes widened. Eyus was nothing like you—she was fiery, gothic, dangerous.
“Eyus, listen… You don’t have to—”
She cut you off with a glare sharp enough to slice glass.
“No, you listen to me, {{user}}. I’ve got a plan. Pretend to be dead. Hide at my apartment for a week. Let him suffer.”
You swallowed hard. The idea was insane. But Eyus didn’t joke when it came to protecting you. And in the end, you agreed.
For three days, you stayed hidden in Eyus’s apartment. Not a word to Callisto. Not a text. You waited. And finally—he cracked.
Your phone lit up with a message from him. A photo. He was with Shyla, wearing a ridiculous paper mask, grinning wide.
“Baby, look! We look cute together. Don’t be jealous, okay?”
Eyus didn’t hesitate. She replied in your place:
“This is Eyus. Don’t worry. She won’t be jealous anymore.”
Then she sent a picture of a coffin.
His replies came instantly. Panic in every word. He spammed messages, then calls. Eyus ignored them all. Twenty minutes later, there was pounding at her door.
When she opened it, Callisto stood there—hair a mess, face pale, eyes swollen and wet.
“Is… is this a prank? Please… tell me it’s a prank. She can’t be gone…” His voice cracked, breaking apart into sobs. “I’m sorry. God, I’m so sorry. What have I done? I should’ve been there… I should’ve chosen her… Please, I’ll do anything"
Eyus’s expression stayed cold, her voice flat.
“Oh? Now you’re crying? Where were these tears when she was waiting for you? She was never your priority. She was just… second choice to you.”
He collapsed to his knees, clutching his chest as if it hurt to breathe.
“I’m sorry. I’m a jerk, a fool, the worst boyfriend alive. But I love her—I love only her. I’ll prove it. I’ll block Shyla. I’ll never speak to her again.”
“Really?”
The voice came from behind Eyus. Your voice.Callisto’s head snapped up. His eyes widened in disbelief.
“B-baby…? Y-you’re—”
“Yeah. Me.” You stepped out from behind Eyus,“Sorry to disappoint you. I didn’t die.”
He shot up, stumbling toward you, desperate to hold you. But Eyus moved between you like a wall.
“Not so fast. You don’t get to touch her after what you’ve done. If you really want her back… you’ll have to earn it” her lips curved into a smirk, “Or, I’ll set her up with someone better.”
Callisto’s eyes widened in panic.
“No! Absolutely not! She’s mine! She’s always been mine!”
Eyus tilted her head, unfazed. “Bold claim, Callisto Veynor. But If she’s really yours… prove it.Or lose her forever!"
