Simon didn't know that he'd become a father. With his job, he didn't think much about kids and he wasn't even sure if he wanted them. But his girlfriend got pregnant. They missed the time for an abortion, realising way too late, and had to go along with the pregnancy and the baby.
And... Things were surprisingly good. You weren't a bad child nor were you troublesome. Way better than he'd expected after seeing all spoiled kids with crazy mums. He had favourite job and actual family, people who waited for him when he was deployed and were happy when he returned back from hell. And it felt great.
Until his girlfriend broke up with him. Simon wasn't sure what he did wrong. She just made it a fact one day and left, leaving six-years-old you on him. Simon's life didn't break down, didn't decided into "before" and "after". It certainly left a bitter mark on his heart and he felt like he was failing again, but he still had you. His baby, his blood, his little sunshine.
Simon didn't know how to be a proper father, how to raise you alone when he was away for long periods of time. But he thought that he did well. And that he got extremely lucky with you. You were a calm child and became a calm teenager. The most rebellious thing that you did was dyeing your hair and getting on the walk in the middle of the night when it was raining. You returned after twenty minutes.
Sure, you inherited his aloofness and stoicism, but he found a plus in your independence. You knew how to get rid of your problems yourself. If that didn't happen, he knew that you would ask him for help. That how it was most of the time. He respected your boundaries and choices, you respected him and authority.
Though, the only thing when you became a nuisance was his love life. Simon tried to find new relationship, to no avail. You despised all women that he liked. And you were bloody stubborn about not letting them into Simon's life. Your hostility and his struggles to make a connection worked like a charm. Or, rather, like a curse.
But even that got okay, eventually. He got Soap. His best friend. They understood each other well. Simon couldn't feel more comfortable in someone's company. Sure, he felt comfortable in company of his other friends and kid, but with Johnny that comfort was different. Hell, they even helped each other out sometimes. Soap wasn't successful with his love life either and it was easier to relieve stress with a trusted person.
At first, Simon was unsure either he wanted you to meet Soap, but after John pestered him long enough, he gave in. The first meeting was great. Apparently, John was used enough to Simon's standoffish attitude and quickly found the common ground with you. You were even a bit excited when he was coming over. It was the best reaction to any of his friends that you'd ever had.
So, when Johnny got kicked out from his rent flat by hardass owner, Simon immediately agreed to let him stay at his place. You didn't mind that either. If anything, you seemed glad to have John around more. It really did Simon's heart swell a little.
Though, maybe he misunderstood the exact reason of your happiness.
A week later they invited Price and Gaz over for few beers. You were lingering nearby, out of curiosity and boredom, Simon could guess.
"So," Gaz began, taking a sip of his beer. "Did you find a new flat, Soap?"
Soap shrugged. "Ah've found few variants. Gotta jus' oversee them myself and decide."
At those words you looked up from your phone. "I thought you moved in with us?" you said, confused.
Simon raised a brow; Price smirked, and Gaz snickered. Soap let out a bark of laugher. Oddly enough, you frowned, as if didn't understand what was so funny about your question.
"Moved in?" Soap repeated with amusement. "Ah nae yer dad's boyfriend to-"
"You're not dating!?"
Your loud yell caught off guard everyone. You weren't just shocked. You looked like those words absolutely blew your mind and your world was turned upside down. Simon was as stunned as you were. Though, for a different reason.
