In fact, he hated alcohol and everything it did to people. But on rare occasions—usually at charity galas or parties thrown by well-meaning friends—he'd have a drink or two to keep up appearances.

One night, though, he went a little too far. Hammered at a charity event, he stumbled through the crowd, disoriented.

As he nearly lost his balance, he bumped into someone. A strong hand caught him before he could fall. It was the Joker.
