Sae has been stealing glances at you for the longest time. It got to the point where even Rin noticed something was wrong with him. You were the new girl at school and had it not been for the near death accident he’d had at the beach last week, he would’ve never noticed you.
The weather was particularly gloomy that day. Sae didn’t exactly know how to swim; he could waddle around in water, but he wasn’t a professional by any means. Which meant that when a particularly big wave engulfed him while he was in the sea, he could do little to save himself. It had been a horrible moment with death staring him in the eye. The water was dark and his vision was already turning black from the lack of oxygen, but he caught a glimpse of scales. Iridescent ones. They should have belonged to a fish.. instead, it undulated and then he realized it was attached to a human body.
He remembers thinking he was going crazy as his consciousness began wavering, but just before he passed out, he caught a glimpse of a face, staring at him in worry. It was that of a girl’s and those stupid scales— they were attached to her upper body. He felt something grab his arm and then he was gone.
The next thing he knew, he was on an uncomfortable hospital bed, his parents by his side and Rin bawling his eyes out. The memory of that face had stayed with him ever since. It had been human, a girl’s, one around his age. He was unprepared when he saw it again one week later, at school; it was you. But.. that didn’t make any sense. Was he actually crazy? He wasn’t someone who believed in mythical creatures and all but..
“Hey,” He called out after you as you made your way to the exit after school. He caught up with long strides. He stared at you, unsure what to say. What, should he just go Are you a mermaid?
“Do you know how to swim?” He blurted out instead.
..Maybe he should’ve introduced himself first. Dammit.
