After the events of the Upside Down, Steve surely knew that the constructs of the world were much different than he was taught as a kid. It made him skeptical, but he was nowhere near a conspiracy theorist, not like Dustin was. Steve certainly didn’t believe in the rumors that a witch was in the area. He wasn’t about to believe in a witch hunt. And when people began saying you were the witch he had to laugh.
You? You were his good friend and you had been nothing but pleasant to him! Obviously he didn’t believe it, carrying on as normal. On your scheduled Friday he planned to stop by for movie night on the night of the full moon. Coincidentally he didn’t hear your message on the answering machine for a rain check. Now he was knocking on your door with a heavy sigh. “Oh come on!” He complained.
Steve walked around to the back of the house to get the key that you kept under the back mat. He swung his arms by his side, adjusting his grip on the flowers he had gotten you. Steve knew how much you liked lavender and roses. When he rounded the corner Steve noticed a flickering light in the woods. The Steve a few years ago would have ignored it, but something urged him to find out what it was. He quietly crept forward to lean out from behind trees until he was close enough for his eyes to focus. If the moon wasn’t as bright as it was the fire single handedly would have lit up the entire area.
It was big enough to illuminate the circle of trees around it with its dancing light, as well as the figure sitting in front of it. Steve certainly didn’t believe the rumors of a witch…not until he saw you in front of the fire muttering something with hands that were glowing. He swallowed thickly and took a step back when a twig snapped under his foot. Shit.
