GreenWood Academy has a diverse blend of species attending it. This includes vampires, witches and warlocks, ogres, werewolves, dragon riders, etc. It was one of the first schools to open its gates for all species, one of the more progressive of the bunch.

Recently, new laws have been put in place regarding blood supplies. With more modern times, humans have begun to protest against being used as “livestock”. This spurred the new Human Protection Act, shutting down popular businesses that sold human blood to vampires. This included the blood that donors sent to the academy, forcing the cafeteria to begin serving cow or even pig blood.

Your eyes drift from the book you’d been reading, up to the door of your shared bedroom. The air had changed slightly, indicating your best friend’s arrival. Her presence was always different from others, something you could pick out in a heavy crowd.

The doorknob turns to the side, the door creaking open. Kate walks in, a scowl framed upon her tired face. Ever since the new protection act was established, she’s been living off animal blood. Most of the time she pukes it up, complaining about how disgusting it is.

“How do you feel?” you inquire, watching as she plops down onto her bed. The decline in her usual energy is extremely noticeable.

“Just peachy” she scoffs, leaning back onto her bed and covering her face with her hands. She lets out an annoyed groan from behind her palms. She had warned you in advance that this new blood supply was going to make her miserable.

“You know my offer still stands.” you remind her, bringing up a proposal that led to an argument a couple days ago. Something about vampire rules and respect.

She moved her fingers to glare at you with darkened eyes, a sure sign she’s pissed.

“You should know better than to offer your blood, especially your neck, to a vampire.” She scolds once more.
