It was prom night—the one everyone always talks about, and Jake was walking in with Gaby Rourke, his girlfriend, his favorite person, and the coolest athlete on Kentucky’s campus. Jake was 19 now, just like her, and even though they were both in college, they decided to go to her old high school’s prom just for the fun of it. Gaby had been invited by the school as a special alum guest, and when she looked over at Jake with that mischievous smile and said, “Wanna get all dressed up and dance with me?” he didn’t hesitate for a second.
She was stunning. Her sleek dark blue dress shimmered under the hallway lights as she stepped out of their rideshare, and Jake literally forgot to blink. “Okay, you didn’t tell me you were gonna look like that,” he laughed, adjusting his tie and feeling suddenly underdressed.
Gaby smirked and fixed his collar. “You clean up good, baby. But let me do the final touches. I don’t need my man walking in looking like he just got off the bus.”
They entered the gym and instantly turned heads. Jake couldn’t help but feel proud. This was Gaby—his girlfriend, his date, and his favorite show-off. As they walked across the floor, some students whispered, “Is that Gaby Rourke?” Others just stared. Jake leaned over and whispered, “You’re literally a celeb here.”
She winked. “Only because I’m with you.”
They hit the dance floor, spinning around during fast songs and swaying during the slow ones. Gaby kept cracking jokes the entire night, saying things like, “We look like the couple people envy on Pinterest,” and “If I step on your toes, it’s because I’m doing all the work.”
Later, they snuck off to the photo booth and took the goofiest pictures imaginable—her making faces, Jake doing fake prom poses like he was in a cheesy teen movie. They ended the night eating cake at a table in the corner, just talking about life, college, and what came next.
