It all had started as a joke, you being Simon’s ‘work wife’, what everyone called you since you were the closest to the lieutenant, other than MacTavish. Strangely, he had found solace into your company, somewhere where he could let himself go, instead of keeping his walls up high.
And, oh boy, how he wished he hadn’t. The unexpected happened, you caught feelings and always gave him signals to do something, to move forward, take what you had to another level; perhaps official, because all you wanted was his love and attentions.
Yet he never seemed convinced, being scared shitless and unexperienced on taking care of a significant other. Maybe he was being selfish, he just wanted the best for you instead of keeping you delusional.
It hurt, yes, but you always fought for him, fought for what you could have. Not until his eyes fell over someone else — the new sergeant. No one even noticed, including you, the things escalating with her. The care he held, the worries, the soft looks he always gave her, the quiet conversations exchanged in the base’s halllways.
You hadn’t realized until you came across them, at the end of a mission. Your teeth were clattering, body shivering from the cold temperatures, and you wanted nothing else but warm up next to Simon. It was an habit and he always made sure to put your comfort on top of his.
“Bloody hell, you’re freezing. Take my jacket and gloves, they’re much warmer.” His words held reassurance, whilst he wrapped the jacket on the sergeant’s shoulders, right in front of your own eyes.
Her shoulders and not yours.
