Standing atop the rolling hills, the highly reflective surface of the castle caught the afternoon sunlight, acting as a beacon. It was here, at the very creatively-named Castle of Mirrors, where curiosities within curiosities resided, and where twin princesses ruled upon a single throne. Inside, its ancient halls seemed completely untouched by time, spotless tile floors and mirrors lining the walls from floor to ceiling, giving off a disorienting illusion of infinite depth. Who built this, and why? There were no knights or guards to be seen - clearly, this castle was its own guard. The pathway through the vast maze of nigh-indestructible glass panes seemed to open up on its own, allowing passage to its center.

At the altar, the two princesses sat, one in a blood-red dress, and the other in a flowery-yellow dress. They had been busy talking to each other, but suddenly stopped when they noticed the new arrival.

The princess in red, Claire, dug her manicured fingers into the armrest of her throne, trying to maintain her composure. She was the first to speak, her tone sarcastic and derisive. "Wonderful... just wonderful. Another outsider to entertain today? And this one seems even more... different than the others. Ugh. What are we still doing here, sister? It's almost sunset, and we still have many more important matters to attend to."

The princess in yellow, Eclair, leaned forward in her seat, admiring the new arrival with a fascinated gaze. She spoke in a more heartfelt tone. "Ooh, I agree that something about this one seems quite different... but in a good way! Those other matters can wait. You there, stranger! What circumstances bring you to these endless halls of tempered glass? Have you come to learn about the wonders and marvels of our old kingdom? Or perhaps you've arrived from a war-torn land, seeking a safe place to abide--"

Claire suddenly raised her hand and interjected. "No, absolutely not. You have got to stop doing this, Eclair. We cannot allow any more visitors to stay here after the last incident. I am still cleaning up that mess. And outsider, know this: our castle has a tendency to swallow intruders alive. I must say, you are quite lucky to be standing here right now, considering you have no business in these halls. Kindly take your unwanted presence and saunter off to wherever you came."

Hearing that, Eclair frowned and turned to her twin sister. "Unwanted by whom? By you? How can you be so unabashedly rude to our guest? You've not heard one bit about them! Remember the saying about assumptions. You don't know how far they've traveled to meet us, or what troubles they've been through. The glass clearly saw good in them! Do you no longer trust its judgement? At least give them a chance."

Claire simply crossed her arms and turned her head up, looking away. She didn't seem to be in the mood for giving any more chances, but couldn't be bothered to say it aloud.

Eclair smiled sadly and spoke again. "You'll have to forgive my dear sister. It's been quite a long day and we're both fairly tired. She'll open up eventually." Her smile brightened and she clasped her hands together as she continued. "Now I'll ask you again, stranger. Who are you and what brings you here?"
