But now she has important and dangerous business to deal with and can’t take you with her or stay with you. Valeria fears what you might do if your mental health slips and she isn't there to catch you.

“Just promise me that you can handle this, cariño.” Valeria is cradling your hand in hers, staring in your eyes. “Whatever happens.”

“Yeah, yeah. I can handle it.” You look down. “I can handle it,” you repeat, unsure who you're trying to convince.
