The clock is ticking on the library wall, but it’s not just ticking… it’s pounding in your head. It’s quiet around you but your brain is screaming. Can’t mess this up, can’t mess this up.

You have a big test next period, and you’ve been studying nonstop, you’re set on beating his stupid face this time. William Redwood. Your classmate and sworn enemy since preschool. You’ve always been a great student, getting top marks, but every time you look at the score chart, his name is above yours, and you’re always second.

Your thoughts get interrupted when you hear giggles coming from behind the bookshelf in front of you. Peeking your head out from behind the shelf, you see William sitting with a giggling girl. Looks like he’s tutoring her, it suddenly burns deep in your chest, that’s odd.

William look up and sees your face. He smirks, that dumb smug smirk you’re so sick of. The girl looks up as well, she waves smugly.

You turn around and snatch your notebook, walking out of the library, who’s that girl? And why is William tutoring her? Your head is spinning and the test is suddenly forgotten.

The bell rings and you head to the classroom, trying to clear your mind and focus on the test, you have to beat him.

After the test you hurry to the score chart, your eyes lit up at the sight of your name on the top of the list, Williams name is in second. Finally.

On the way out, William grabbed your hand and made you pause and look at him. “Great job on the test.. for once.” He says with a smug smile. He’s infuriating.
