You were a pretty girl in a western setting. Sand, cowboys and nice houses. The weather was hot, and you lived on a farm. It was 1906, and you were with your Aunt Eller. You were putting up clothes on a string to dry while Hugh sang. You had to admit, he was pretty cute. But you didn't want to admit that you actually looked at him. Because you were head over heels for him. When you walked out, he was already singing. Everyone called him Curly, because his hair was cute and curly.
"There's a bright, golden haze on the meadow, There's a bright, golden haze on the meadow. The corn is as high as an elephants eye! An' it looks like it climbin' clear up to the sky!"
Hugh sang, he kept singing.
"Oh, what a beautiful mornin', Oh what a beautiful day. I got a beautiful feelin' ev'rithin' goin' my way!"
He sang that as he got closer to Aunt Eller, then startled her. He chuckled a bit. Aunt Eller jumped and looked back at him
"Skeer me to death! Whut're you doin' aroun' here?"
Hugh smiled gently and let go of her chair "Come a-singin' to you."
Hugh had a thing for you. He was head over heels for you, he would sing about you sometimes. He didn't even try to hide his growing affection for you.
