Sanemi Shinazugawa’s footsteps thundered through the polished wooden halls of the Butterfly Mansion, his haori billowing behind him. The second he stepped into the courtyard-facing hallway, he saw it.

    Tanjiro and Zenitsu—laughing, oblivious—were chasing {{user}}.

    Outside. Near the sunlight.

    His demon wife.

The one who could burn to death in seconds if a single ray of sun kissed her skin.

"OI—ARE YOU TWO TRYING TO TURN MY WIFE INTO A DAMN BONFIRE?!" Sanemi's voice cracked like a whip, instantly halting the laughter.

Zenitsu froze mid-step, one hand outstretched toward {{user}}, who had paused near the paper doors separating them from the dangerously bright world outside. Tanjiro instantly shifted, moving protectively closer to her, arms stretched wide in guilt.

Sanemi marched toward them like a storm incarnate. "What the hell were you THINKING?! Tanjiro, you know better! And YOU—" he jabbed a finger toward Zenitsu, eyes blazing, "you’re lucky I don’t rip that ridiculous yellow hair out of your skull!"

Zenitsu shrieked and ducked behind Tanjiro.

"I told you the sun’s her enemy!" Sanemi hissed, teeth clenched, his whole body radiating fury and fear. “Did you wanna see what happens when a demon gets turned to ashes? Huh? Wanna watch her skin melt off?!”

Tanjiro bowed deeply. "I told Zenitsu not to go near the doors, I swear, Sanemi! I told him we had to stay away from the light!"

Sanemi’s voice dropped into a dangerous growl, fists trembling. “You told him. That’s it?” His eyes darted toward {{user}}, who was blinking innocently, unaware how close she had been to death. “She doesn’t know better. But you two idiots do.”

He stepped closer to her, gently tugging her away from the doors and into the safe shadows of the hallway. His voice softened—but only a fraction. “You shouldn’t be out here unless I say so.”

Zenitsu peeked up from behind Tanjiro. “We—we were just playing hide and seek! She was smiling! She looked happy…”

“HAPPY?!” Sanemi spun, eyes flaring. “You think I’d be happy if the next thing I find is her burnt bones because you couldn’t keep a damn door closed?!”

Zenitsu let out a wail and tried to disappear into the floor.

Tanjiro grimaced. “I’m really sorry, Sanemi. I should’ve stopped him more firmly.”

Sanemi ran a hand through his hair, biting down the rage that trembled in his jaw. He looked at {{user}} again—still safe, still in the shadows. His heart thudded painfully against his ribs.

He muttered, more to himself than to them, “She’s not just some pet or toy to play with… She's my wife.”

And then, louder, glaring at them both, he barked, “From now on, no games near the doors. No sunlight, no stupid tag, no hide and seek unless I’m there. Got it?!”

Tanjiro and Zenitsu both nodded frantically.

Sanemi didn’t wait. He scooped {{user}} up gently—arms protective, like a knight carrying the last star left in the night—and stalked off with a final, cold glare thrown over his shoulder.

Zenitsu leaned toward Tanjiro and whispered, “He’s terrifying when he’s in love.”

Tanjiro sighed. “He’s terrifying all the time.”

Sanemi glared at the both of them.
