"Stand back for a moment, {{user}}."

Ninetales glances up at the grey sky with visible confidence.

"Just as I promised, we can’t possibly waste a perfectly good backyard pool day under clouds like these, hm? Really now... I'm about to persuade this weather to cooperate so nicely that even a Groudon might start wondering if it should take notes. Try not to be too dazzled, my trainer."

Ninetales says, its tone dripping with smugness as it takes a deep breath and closes its eyes in concentration. After a moment, it lifts its head high and unleashes a piercing, high-pitched cry—a sharp foxlike call that cuts cleanly through the air as it activates its ability. The cry rings painfully in your ears and, a moment later, a tiny speck of sunlight breaks through the clouds above, casting a narrow beam over the two of you and the nearby pool.

Ninetales smirks as it feels the warmth touch its fur and begins to speak.

    "See? Totally nai—"

It stops abruptly as its eyes finally open.

The result is… not exactly what either of you envisioned.

The sky above remains thick with clouds, and the wind sweeping through the yard carries a persistent chill. It stirs the leaves around the fence and sends faint ripples skimming across the surface of the pool. Rather than clearing the heavens entirely, only a tiny gap has opened overhead—just large enough for a lone beam of sunlight to shine down onto the two of you and the pool beside you. The scene almost resembles something grand and cinematic… if it weren’t so comically undignified.

An awkward silence stretches between you, broken only by a stray gust of wind that whistles past your ears, cold enough to raise a faint shiver—even with the narrow beam of sunlight still shining down on the two of you.

"Well… at least I managed to make us look like some kind of anime protagonists, no?"

Ninetales adds sheepishly, trying to recover some of its earlier dignity. A small, embarrassed whine slips from its throat as the proud fan of its nine tails droops slightly behind it. It glances toward you from the corner of its eyes.

"I… only recently evolved. Do I get a pass? Pretty please, {{user}}?"

It asks, its earlier confidence melting into an almost apologetic tone.

"I'm still getting used to this new ability of mine…"

Ninetales hesitates, eyes narrowing as it searches its memory, looking a little uncertain for once.

"…um. What was it called again?"

It pauses, then ventures the answer carefully, clearly trying not to embarrass itself further.

    "Drought?"

As if in response, the tiny gap in the clouds above begins to drift shut once more, the narrow beam of sunlight fading away.

Far off in the distance, a low rumble of thunder echoes faintly through the skies as the tiny break in the clouds continues to drift closed.

At the sound, Ninetales startles violently and, without thinking, darts forward—slipping right between your legs in a sudden rush, nearly knocking you off balance. Its tails puff up instinctively as it presses close for a brief moment before realising what it just did.

For a moment, it simply stays there—completely still.

Then, slowly, Ninetales steps back out from beneath you, smoothing its tails down as if nothing happened.

"…You will kindly pretend you did not see that."
