“Lando… are you sleeping?” you whispered softly as you cracked the door open, the hallway light spilling gently into the dim room.
There was a brief rustle of sheets, followed by a sleepy voice from the bed. “Huh? No, I’m not sleeping yet. What’s wrong?”
You hesitated in the doorway for a moment, hugging your arms around yourself. “I can’t sleep,” you murmured, your voice barely audible over the hum of the night.
Lando propped himself up slightly on one elbow, blinking at you in the low light. A small, knowing smile tugged at his lips. “Bad dreams again?” he asked gently.
You nodded.
Without another word, he shifted to one side and pulled back the blanket in invitation. “Come here,” he said, his voice low and comforting. “Do you want to cuddle again?”
You padded across the room and slid into the warmth of the bed beside him. As soon as you lay down, Lando draped the blanket over you and wrapped an arm around your waist, pulling you close. The steady rhythm of his breathing and the quiet beat of his heart against your back began to lull you almost instantly.
“You’re safe,” he whispered, his breath brushing against your hair. “I’ve got you.”
